Obsessed (Thank you, Corona Virus)

Our obsession reveals our god. What do you obsess over?

Money?

Political ideology?

Appearance?

Credibility?

A promotion?

Social media?

Of course, the list could go on forever.

The recent implications of CoVid: 19 have revealed how quickly we can obsess over things like our health, our jobs, our bank accounts, our homes, and even our toilet paper. Not only has the Corona Virus shown us how quickly the world can be thrown into uncertainty, it has exposed how quickly each one of us can become consumed with ourselves and our comfort.

Jesus has an answer for that:

He tells us to "seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33) In other words, be obsessed with Jesus and he will take care of everything else.

Worry is a symptom of obsession over something other than Jesus. Peace is a signal that you are focused on and trusting in Jesus.

Lord, we pray that our one obsession would be the abandoning of ourselves to you. May we look upon you so intently that your love, truth, mercy, and grace are reflected in everything we think, say, and do. Help us shed the shackles of earthly worry and embrace the freedom that flows from your peace that passes all understanding. May those we encounter today, encounter you (in us) first. AND may they too be drawn to the hope found in you alone.
