Priority Realignment

I can't remember where I heard this, but I think it's brilliant. My apologies to whoever said it originally, because I'm probably paraphrasing it horribly:

Here is how to know if your priorities are in line with your beliefs: The next time you say "I don't have the time to____________", replace it with the words, "I'm not willing to____________."

If your statement causes your conscience to bristle, it's worth considering a priority re-alignment. Feeling overwhelmed is rarely the result of a time-issue; it's most likely a value-issue. We prioritize time according to what we ultimately value.

Let me add that if we daily prioritize Jesus above all else, all other values will align accordingly. Jesus says so, Himself:

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Jesus (Matthew 6:33 NIV)

He also tells us that by making Him our top priority, we will not be overwhelmed:

"Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” - Jesus (Matthew 11:29 MSG)

May each of us "be willing" to follow Jesus, make disciples, and intentionally live as light in the darkness. You and I have been given the gift of 24 hours every day. If we spend those hours on what Jesus values, we will operate in perfect alignment and know His peace in every moment of the day.
